Animal Crossing: New Horizons version 1.11.1 is now available on the Nintendo Switch. As was expected, the most recent update to the game is a relatively minor one that focuses primarily on fixing a handful of issues that players may have encountered. Over the last few months, fans have been eagerly awaiting some sort of significant expansion, but there hasn't been much in the way of new content to enjoy in the game. Nintendo has confirmed that a significant update will be released this year, but that is unlikely to make anyone feel any better in the meantime! In the company's second quarter financial highlights, the company revealed that the game has now sold 33.89 million units, solidifying its position as the second best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch. It's a significant improvement over Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the previous game in the series that was the best-selling Animal Crossing game prior to New Horizons. Since 2012, only 12.93 million copies of the title have been sold.
Given the large number of people who have purchased New Horizons, it should come as no surprise that Nintendo plans to release a significant content update later this year. The company clearly wants to keep fans invested in the game while also encouraging more players to check out the title. Hopefully, the next major update will live up to the hype and provide fans with what they have been waiting for. There are a number of features from previous Animal Crossing games that would be welcome additions to New Horizons, the most notable of which are the Roost cafe and the return of Brewster.
